The Board oversees Admission on Motion (without examination) by virtue of the Code of Virginia § 54.1-3931 and Supreme Court of Virginia Rule 1A:1.
Persons with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the full-time practice of law, who are licensed before the court of last resort of a reciprocal jurisdiction, MAY be eligible for admission to the Virginia State Bar without examination. To determine if you qualify for admission on motion, refer to the Supreme Court of Virginia Rule 1A:1 Rules and Regulations promulgated by the Supreme Court.
The Admission on Motion filing fee is $1,500. This fee covers the cost of processing the Application, investigating matters contained in the applicant's completed Character & Fitness Questionnaire, and preparing of the Character Report.
Processing your Admission on Motion application takes between four (4) and six (6) months from the date your complete application package is received by our office.
